With the locally trained teachers being under-resourced in this area of Fiji, they need help to be able to provide the necessary levels of education for the children attending the schools, especially in the English language. English language skills help provide a link between different ethnic communities, as well as increasing employment opportunities. Focussing on improving literacy and numeracy levels as well as helping children develop physically and creatively through art and sport, you will work as a teaching assistant within the classroom or help with the running of the one-on-one tuition program.
You will be immersed in the Fijian community and its culture whilst being surrounded by beaches and coral reefs, luscious forests, intimate traditional villages and the mountainous backdrop of the Dawasamu District making this volunteering experience quite special.
Travel around the local area by foot or by boat in your downtime and on your free weekends you will have plenty of opportunity to explore Fiji through island hopping, hiking to waterfalls, dolphin watching, scuba diving, snorkelling, watching traditional ceremonies, visiting white sandy beaches, climbing volcanoes, meeting inspirational people and making lifelong friends, just a few ideas to get you started!
