Unfortunately we have not had the opportunity to visit all of our project destinations (but we are working on it) – but with a little help of our friends, partners and the good old internet, we have put together a little bit of information which might help prepare you for this trip a little or at the very least, get you started on that preparation.
We do recommend you invest in a good travel guide and do some research on your project before you take off on your adventure, as to be prepared is half the battle won into making this volunteer experience a success.
As with any travel, you might find yourself a little unsettled to begin with, especially if you are feeling slightly homesick (which is normal, even for the biggest and toughest amongst us) or experiencing a touch of cultural shock (again, totally normal) – the most important thing is to go open-minded, be prepared and communicate! Don’t wallow in self-pity, don’t be afraid to talk to the host, partner agency and/or colleagues (who have no doubt felt the exact same way as you) or give us a call, that is what we are here for.
This is a huge adventure; it is going to be a trip of a lifetime, one that you will not forget (ever!) –open your eyes, your mind and your soul and go and make a difference!
